THE HISTORY (in his own words)

Larry Osborn I really got interested in Rock & Roll Music around the age of 12 after sitting for many days and hours in my sister's room listening to her play her records. Sitting on the edge of the bed playing air drums, I could really hear and understand what the drummer was playing even though I knew nothing about the drums. After taking some guitar and clarinet lessons, I found it was the drums I really wanted to play. So I brought home a pair of chopsticks from the Chinese restaurant and began banging on my mother's pots and pans. The pots were the drums and the lids were the cymbals.I was driving everyone crazy. Now it was time for real drums. Larry Osborn So after many weeks of begging I got my mother to buy me a cheap 3 piece set which had cymbals that were one step above garbage can lids, this was around the time I was around thirteen or fourteen years old. Working and saving some money I upgraded to a 5 piece Ludwig kit with real cymbals. Hooking up with other musicians in high school, we played all the parties and dances around Monroe, NY. During this period I was influenced by (of course) The Beatles and Rolling Stones, but also Santana, Chicago, Yes and The Young Rascals.Larry Osborn After high school and playing in various bars for a few years, I found I was not progressing musically, so I decided to take music theory at a community college (SUNY Orange) from 1974-1976. After graduating, I felt there was more to learn, much to the dismay of my father. I took off to Berklee College of Music in Boston, Mass. Larry OsbornThat opened my eyes to a whole new world of Jazz. A rather humbling experience because you are there with some of the best players in the country, but rewarding just the same. Playing drums and making music is still a very big part of my life. I've found with it's many ups and downs, you have to be persistent and hang in there. You have to be able to sort out the criticism and learn from it.
